Topic: Middle Software

I'm about to start using a Babyface which I purchased awhile back.

I understand the first row of Totalmix to be the inputs, and the bottom row to be the outputs (for the babyface).
What exactly is the middle row "software" for? Do I even need to use this?
I prefer to do any routing for a submix or auxillaries right in Samplitude.

thanks for any help or tips for the above!!

Re: Middle Software

The "playback group" represents any software outputs. If you have a DAW, the shown outputs by the driver are exactly these software outputs.
You can assign them 1:1 with the "real outputs" to functionally bypass them.

I am using them to group my Forte sounds ("Pianos, Pads, Leads, Bass, FX"). Even though they are all routed to my main real outputs. But for in-ear mixing, everybody who gets an output from my Babyface can mix them as they want, volume vice.

Thanks for the reply Burtan!

"I am using them to group my Forte sounds ("Pianos, Pads, Leads, Bass, FX")."
Why can't you just set up a submix bus in the DAW? I know there must be something extra to it, but so far, I'm failing to see it.

Re: Middle Software

I could, actually I do it as well. But with these software outputs, my band can also differently mix my sounds on their monitors via OSC (http://osc-commander.com/). Usually they want Pianos to be loud and Pads to be more quiet.

Re: Middle Software

Ok, that makes sense.
I guess my next question would be "do I have to use the totalmix software routing"?
Can I just use the input and outputs only?

thanks Burtan!

Re: Middle Software

You don't have to use it; just go to Options -> Reset Mix -> Straight Playback. Then routings are 1:1 like the mixer does not exist.

But TotalMix will always start when the device is connected. It's required for some functions of the Babyface.
