Topic: Word Clock Distribution

Hi,
When using the UFX as a word clock master in a chain containing 2 other preamp units, is the following set up chain acceptable?

RME UFX (WC MASTER) WC OUT

WC CABLE from UFX WC OUT

into T BAR on WC IN of 2nd UNIT (unterminated)

WC CABLE from other leg of T BAR on 2nd UNIT WC IN

into WC IN on 3rd UNIT (terminated interally)

(For audio, ADAT cables are running from the ADAT outputs on units 2 and 3 into the dual ADAT inputs on the UFX. 2 x 8 channels at 48k operation, not SMUX)

I'm also not from RME, and the WC connection seems okay.

If the second and third units have ADAT in, you could connect ADAT out from the UFX and send the clock/sync signals. That would be kind of 'star configuration'.

So something like this;

UFX ADAT IN 1 <- 1st Unit ADAT OUT  (post ADC data goes to UFX)
UFX ADAT OUT 1  -> 1st Unit ADAT IN (sync signals comes from UFX)

UFX ADAT IN 2 <- 2nd Unit ADAT OUT  (post ADC data goes to UFX)
UFX ADAT OUT 2  -> 2nd Unit ADAT IN (sync signals comes from UFX)

If these preamps don't have ADAT IN, forget about it.
