Topic: Totalmix uses discrete GPU in OSX, but why?

Hello!

In OSX Mavericks, and using my MBP late '11, I noticed that every time I open Totalmix or it opens automatically when plugging in my Fireface UC, the laptop switches to discrete GPU. This makes it run hotter and consume more power, eventually making the laptop noisier. Would it be possible to tweak the Totalmix so it would always run with Integrated GPU only?

For example, Quicktime and MPlayerX can playback all kinds of videos without ever switching to discrete GPU, so I'm sure simple graphics like Totalmix metering could be handled by integrated GPU just fine, yes?

Thanks!

No. TM FX uses Open GL heavily, which might be the reason that OS X decides to switch to the external GPU - despite us having set the property to use only the internal one.

You can use a freeware tool like GFXCardStatus to force  the OS to use the internal GPU:

Unfortunately TM FX is in something called the dependencies list, so switching is not possible: http://gfx.io/switching.html#integrated … imitations

This problem is solved in TM FX 1.0. It wil be available soon for Mac OS X.

Thanks very much. I knew RME would get this sorted at some point.
