Topic: MADIface USB + M32-DA setup

Hi everyone,

I use a Mac Pro to record with Cubase 6.5 + 24 outside preamps (3 units x 8 preamps - Focusrites ISA828 and Midas XL48). They all have ADAT digital outputs.

I though it would be a great idea to buy a M32-DA so I can use my 24 preamps into the M32-DA using the ADAT inputs, and in return to have 32 outs to connect different sound box and/or outside fx.

So I bought the M32-Da + the MADIface USB to be able to use it with the computer via MADI in and out. But I don't know what is wrong with my setup or if it just cannot work that way, but it is just not working.

If I select the ADAT sync option (button in the front of the unit) then I can see I have signals on the meters, but nothing goes into the computer, it goes out directly into the analog outputs, for example microphone connected in the preamp #1, goes ou in the sound box connected in the output #1 ....

Tried to change, but always the same, the input follows the output, but never goes into the computer.

If I try to play something on the computer, nothing comes out.

Otherwise, if I uncheck the ADAT sync option, the MADI comes in and then i have no more signal from my microphones, but I can hear the music playing in the computer ...

Hope it is just a routing problem ....

Thanks to help me resolve that problem.

Re: MADIface USB + M32-DA setup

What you are seeing is exactly the way the M32-DA is supposed to work - it converts digital signals straight to analog. It is not really designed to send these to the computer, and it does not act as a format converter from ADAT to MADI. For this purpose, you'd need a device like the ADI--648 - if you have a special reason to use MADI otherwise, like coverning long distances between stage and studio or so. Otherwise, the RME HDSPe Raydat might have been a better choice to get your ADAT signals into the computer. You culd also connect the M32 to the card for playback or to connect to external gear - if you need that many analog outputs from the computer.
