Topic: TotalMix FX Main Fader at -10db default?

Just wondering why the main fader defaults to -10db?
Is this normal? Should I leave it at -10db or change it to 0.0db?

Windows 7 64bit
RayDat Drivers 4.0
Nuendo 6.5

Thanks for any info.

It depend if your main is used as monitoring out. If so, set it as the usual listening level, if not set it to 0 (or not).

Re: TotalMix FX Main Fader at -10db default?

I use external hardware monitoring so I have never used Totalmix FX.
I just installed the latest driver for the RayDat (4.0) and suddenly I have Totalmix FX.
Wasn't there before the update.

When I started to investigate it,  I noticed the Main Fader is at -10db by default.
When I raise the volume of the Fader, my playback volume from Nuendo is affected.
I'm not using Totalmix FX for anything.

So should I raise the fader to 0db or is it set to -10 for a reason?
Will this cause internal clipping? Will this affect my mixdowns/bounces final volume?

Thanks for your time.

You set the fader on to the value that you need. -10 dB is the default for the summing (monitoring) bus.

Re: TotalMix FX Main Fader at -10db default?

Sorry for bringing that thread back up from the dead, but I have a serious issue with the default -10db setting at the main fader. I'm using a HDSPe MADI card in a surround setup with multiple users (100+ students at a university) which is a huge problem for the setup process. I'd suggest 0dB OR -10dB as the default setting for ALL outputs, therefore you have no level differences for multichannel monitor setups.
