Topic: Digicheck & Aliasing issues with HDSPe MADIFACE

This question is concerning a MADI system based on:

3x MICSTASY
1x ADI-642
1x HDSPe MADIFACE, SN=22856545, FW=23, WDM/ASIO driver 4.04, Win7/x86
MADI clocking driven from AES/EBU inputs on ADI642.
96k Frame Setting active.

I am experiencing the following issue and request some guidance.

We are using an HP laptop to host the MADIFACE card and are recording to USB-2 external disk (Toshiba 1TB) via DIGICHECK 5.75. For the entire duration of the recording, no dropouts (red-display) are indicated on the DIGICHECK UI, and the HD load doesn't exceed 55%.

The recording is 32 channels at 96kHz. 8 Channels arrive on the network from the AES inputs on the ADI-642 and the whole system is clocked from the AES interface on the 642.

I notice two issues:

1. When using channels 31,32 as monitoring channels (ADI642) I notice that channel 32 is heavily aliased, indicating that the samples on that channel are corrupt in some way. This does not happen if I monitor using 29,30 or 27,28. only 32 is affected. This does not happen when using the PCIe HDSPe MADI.
2. There is a clear intermittent discontinuity in the audio data as recorded via Digicheck, however there has been no indication on the Digicheck screen of a data dropout or lost buffer. This affects all 32 tracks simultaneously. Basically, the producer has identified some intermittent clicks in the recording. Upon closer inspection, the discontinuities were found.

Prior to embarking on this job, I updated the HDSPe MADIFACE firmware and also updated the driver on the laptop (x86/Windows 7 )

i perceive these to be two separate issues, but would appreciate advice.

thanks,

mark.

I don't understand where the 3 Micstasys are connected to.

Re: Digicheck & Aliasing issues with HDSPe MADIFACE

Connection is in a loop:

|---MICSTASY1(1-8)--MICSTASY2(9-15)--MICSTASY3(16-24)----------ADI624(25-32)--HDSPeMADIFACE-----|
|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Please change all units to use 48k Frame mode.

Re: Digicheck & Aliasing issues with HDSPe MADIFACE

OK, so at this point it is relevant to bring in additional information. I am using 96K Frame mode because I have a Sound Devices 970 MADI recorder hanging off the Coax port on the ADI642. This needs 96K Frame Mode to function correctly at 96kHz SR. If I set the output of the ADI642 to 96K can I set the remainder of the network to run at 48K Frame or does everything have to be at the same setting?

Re: Digicheck & Aliasing issues with HDSPe MADIFACE

Please change all units to use 48k Frame mode. Means: Pin down the problem first before thinking about further settings/setup options.

ok - will set the rig up over Christmas again and test according to this. Will advise when I have further details.
