Re: Archive: The official New GUI for Total Mix thread (not TotalMix FX)

Hello everyone, I Have a strange problen, I changed the skin when i updated to 3.057 and everything was fine. I have updated again last night to 3.07 and went to change the skin and it would not work...even after triple checking all the advice in this thread and on the download page. This morning booted still no change....After a search for the back up drivers (the driver folder that windows uses if you want change back again after an update) in the system 32 folder i tryed hdspmix.exe this time, old driver version 3.057, and the skin change worked perfectly.Does 3.07 update drop skin changeing....I have hdsp9632

many thanks stefan

Re: Archive: The official New GUI for Total Mix thread (not TotalMix FX)

what is the name of the folder with the bmp?

it changed to "bmp_hdsp" from "bmp" (v3.057 and above, i think).

only with hdsp, for the fireface it is the same name(bmp).

Re: Archive: The official New GUI for Total Mix thread (not TotalMix FX)

Hi yanuka, I just want to say thanks....your advice cured the problem....have a great week.

Thats great stefan, glad to hear,

took me a long time to find this trick,
all I needed to do is reading the driver "read me" wink

but still I think it will be helpfull to "update" the instruction on the download page.

These all look great. Can anyone give me any tips on how to open one of the rsrc files to start editing my own custom skin on OSX?

Re: Archive: The official New GUI for Total Mix thread (not TotalMix FX)

There are some really great ideas that have been discussed about skinning Totalmix but the one greatest flaw of Totalmix hasn't been addressed by any of them (maybe because it isn't possible yet?): the ability to color groups of faders separately from others. In all the skins I've seen, all channels are of the same color.

When I look at my HDSP 9652's 26 channels and I need to adjust a fader, I'd like to quickly tell which ADAT group I'm accessing. One of eight is easier to locate than one of twenty six. It's of course nice to have custom lables, but IMO color coding by group would be faster.

Another related issue is differentiating left from right channels. Differentiating channel pairs by some kind of separator, like a different colored line, would help. Other options include making the pan "knob" color a different color, or making the volume "knob" a different color.

I haven't looked at the details: is it already possible to do any of this? Thanks!

This would be great but it's not something that can be done by simply making a skin. The channel bitmaps are four bitmaps. Left and right for the input and playback channel and left+right for the output channels. We can hope RME Audio will address this and make separate bitmaps for each channel.

I've made a new skin called midnatt designed to be kind to tired eyes late at night. HDSP graphics bitmaps can be found in the HDSP subfolder. (It's got the 0 at the top on the output channels.)

Download: Removed. New version of this skin is found in this thread in post #376.

Re: Archive: The official New GUI for Total Mix thread (not TotalMix FX)

Hi. I normally visit the newsgroup, but I'd like to ask a question here.

I'm using the latest FF driver (as of Nov 2 08) but my TotalMix version is v2.43.  As such, I can't try any of these great skins, and I'd like to try the Liqube SX skin.

I can't find anywhere in this forum or on the website where you can download the latest version of TotalMix.  Where can I download a v3.x version, so as to be able to try these skins?

Thanks,
Ira Seigel

A single TotalMix file will not work. You need to download and install the whole driver.

Re: Archive: The official New GUI for Total Mix thread (not TotalMix FX)

I like Lqbe's "Liqube SX" skin a lot.  But the buttons indicating the different mixer views is a bit confusing, to me.  There's not enough of a difference if it's "off" or "on" to indicate what you are looking at.  (I'm using TotalMix v2.898 for Firefaces.)  But the color scheme is quite nice, easy to look at, and I very much like the meter color as it approaches the top.

Thanks,
Ira

Please forgive me for my ignorance:
FF800 2.94 driver
Win Xp

Instead of having a tea, I have put one of the available bmp folders in the specified Totalmix folder to change its skin.
So I have succeded in changing the mixer skin.
When I replaced the folder with another one to check a different one, nothing changes.
What am I missing here ?
About totalmix version, when I hit the "?" on the taskbar I get a "2.94", is it the totalmix version or the FF driver ?

Thanks, I like the idea of changing my skin ;-)

Re: Archive: The official New GUI for Total Mix thread (not TotalMix FX)

I am trying to load this bmp for a Totalmix on FF800.
It doesn't seem to like it ( it doesn't load).
Is it because Totalmix for FF series is 2.94 and not 3.057 like it says on the readme file ?

Is there a totalmix 3.097 version available for FF users ?
if yes, where may I download it from ?

thanks again,

No, the driver mentioned in my text notes only referred to the HDSP card... I didn't know the Fireface was any different at the time I made the file.  Many Fireface owners are using this skin, so it may just be a matter of renaming the "hdsp_bmp" folder to whatever is required for that device.

Thanks Terry!  These are built for the FF models (has +6 db above 0db on the outputs).  Is there a version for the HDSP 9652 that has scaling which has 0db as full fader up?

I would just download and try it, but I am away from the studio on business and figured I would just ask the question instead....:-)

Not sure I understand your question, so I'll cover several things and hope the answer is somewhere...

I have the HDSP9652.  I'm not sure there is any difference with the Fireface, never seen it.
The original RME skin has the same level ranges.  The heavier line reads -6 in the Output faders.
OUTPUT faders top out at "0", INPUT/PLAYBACK faders top out at +6.
Default OUTPUT level in the Totalmix has always been at -6 in my experience in order to be at unity gain in my outboard mixer.
We don't change the numbers, we only change the visual appearance of these skins.
Nothing we do changes RME's built-in function, ranges, or dB scaling.
At any rate, I've always wondered why the OUTPUT faders show -6 at unity (???)  I've just grown used to it.

One difference in my skins compared to most other skins I've seen here is that my level marks have different spacings to reflect the proper calibration between Input/Playback levels and Output levels. This changes the actual -40/-32/-24 calibration mark positions in those lower fader regions.

You can see on the Nuendo skin that I tried to locate the actual calibrated mark positions of -40/-32/-24/-18/-12/-6/0/+6 with all the fader sections.
The RME level numbers hit most (but not all) of the exact values, and there are pixel size limitations to how accurate it can get visually.

Re: Archive: The official New GUI for Total Mix thread (not TotalMix FX)

Now I see.... that skin has another set of output faders to read "0" at the top.  Interesting.

Neither Cubase or Nuendo show any numerical text, simply a more pronounced marker at unity.
My skins do the same in order to reflect what they're emulating.

Besides, as I said earlier, the RME Totalmix Output faders read -6 when the HDSP output signal is actually showing unity gain in my digital mixer input.  If I take the output to "0" in the RME output section, my digital mixer is reading +6.

With what I'm experiencing, the solution isn't to change the graphic, it's a matter of RME making sure that the Totalmix actually reads "0" at unity output with the HDSP.

Re: Archive: The official New GUI for Total Mix thread (not TotalMix FX)

'Unity' doesn't explain your problem. Please give me numbers. The output level meters are always 100% correct. I think you overlooked the effect of the PAN law of -6 dB somehow.

As you can see in other bitmap downloads they inlude a subfolder for the models that have 0 dB in the third row with alternative bitmaps, please do this too, your bitmaps are really nice.

OK, the last posted Cubase and Nuendo zip files (post #331) now contain an "HDSP" folder inside the "bmp_hdsp" folder with Output bitmaps that have the prominent line at the top marker position.

Several matrix graphics are also finally updated in all versions.

All the calibration marks are white in the Audition skin, so they'll stay the same for everyone.
