Topic: Does Madi always require a sender and a receiver connected?

Hello,

I guess it is possible to find an answer here, where the Experts of Madi live smile

My question is: Will a Madi connection work if only one way or leg is connected. Let's say from the console to the recorder but not back?

I had issues where I used a Klark Teknik Box to transform AES50 to Madi. I actually  wanted to connect the DN9650 to the recorder and the output of the recorder via madi to the console. It didn't work. I had to connect the recorders out to the Klark Box to create a loop. Is this mandatory? Could I have connected the out of the console to the In of the Klark Teknik box creating a loop but with three nodes in the loop?

Thanks!

Georges

Re: Does Madi always require a sender and a receiver connected?

With the DN9650 it is necessary, but in general, no. None of RME's MADI devices work this way, they always send MADI frames out when powered on.

The loop should be sufficient, this DN9650 box seems to need to find a valid MADI signal at input before it sends signal out.
