Topic: Looking for PCI card for ADI-8 DS with Win 7 64 bit OS

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone can help me find the right PCI card to go with my ADI-8 DS? I am currently running Windows 7(64-bit), the Hammerfall DSP 9632 seems to be the most suitable option but I am not certain if it will work together with   ADI-8 DS and run on Windows 7(64-bit).

Can anyone advise me if Hammerfall DSP 9632 the right PCI card for me?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the number of channels and sample rate. The 9632 has only one ADAT I/O, which means you can have 8 channels at 48 kHz, 4 channels at 96 kHz...

If that is ok for you then it will work.

Hi MC,
Thank you very much for the confirmation, 8 channel in 48Khz will suffice for me.

I have couple of more questions I wonder if you could help me

1. A friend of mine has a ADI-8 AE edition(which is the limited anniversary edition) that I could use, having gone through the user manual I get the impression that the ADI-8 DS edition and the ADI-8 AE edition are identical?

2. Page 6 of the manual states

https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/hdsp9632_e.pdf

"1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the RME Hammerfall DSP system. ............................................................................................The package contains drivers for Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP, Vista /64 and Mac OS X PPC and Intel."

Does this means the driver will also work for Win 7 64 bit OS?

Thanks in advance.

And Win 8 and 10, yes.

The AE has AD converter chips that have a smaller signal to noise ratio. 107 compared to 113, AFAIR.

Thank you very much for the clarification MC, you have been a great help! So I guess if I would like to sample at 96KHz the RME Hammerfall HDSP 9652 is what I should get instead?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Looking for PCI card for ADI-8 DS with Win 7 64 bit OS

Hi MC,
I would like to know if it is possible to connect the ADI-8 AE or  ADI-8 DS directly to the Hammerfall DSP MADI without the ADI-648?

Not possibled, no ADAT ports...

Hi MC,
I am currently looking at the HDSPe AIO

http://www.rme-audio.de/en/products/hdspe_aio.php

I guess this would be an PCIe upgrade connecting to ADI-8 AE or  ADI-8 DS directly?

Re: Looking for PCI card for ADI-8 DS with Win 7 64 bit OS

Correct. Once again 8 channels only at up to 48 kHz. For more you need the HDSPe RayDAT.

Hi MC,
I thought the HDSPe AIO has 1 x ADAT I/O (up to 192 kHz via S/MUX4) as oppose to Hammerfall DSP 9632 which has 1 x ADAT I/O (at 96 kHz via S/Mux) ?

So howcome the HDSPe AIO is only capable of  8 channels at 48 kHz?

Re: Looking for PCI card for ADI-8 DS with Win 7 64 bit OS

Please read the manual of the DS about why you need two ADAT I/Os (= 4 ports) for 8 channels @ 96 kHz. This applies to all devices with ADAT ports.
