Topic: Help with MS Proc use

I can't seem to figure out how to correctly use the MS Proc feature in TotalMix. Yesterday, with UFX to iPad, I recorded an X-Y pair on AN 1/2 from my Octamic,  MS pair #1 on Mic 9/10 and MS pair #2 on Mic 11/12. I setup TotalMix for the MS pairs with MC Proc on and R phase.

The iPad software is Auria and the mics came into tracks 1 - 6 with the MS tracks on 3/4 and 5/6. The MS track pairs are "raw" though? For example with MS pair #1, the cardioid mic is on track 3 and the figure-eight mic on 4.

First question: what should I have done to have these record as a blended stereo pair?

Second question: how can I now re-process these 4 tracks into stereo pairs?

Thanks for your help.

Patrick.

Re: Help with MS Proc use

The MS process is not within the recording path, as that doesn't make sense. You record M/S to be able to have full control over stereo width later on, so it needs to be recorded unprocessed. The MS process button is for monitoring the M/S signals as normal stereo signal during the recording.

Processing M/S into stereo should be a task within Auria, please ask in their forum how to do that.

Re: Help with MS Proc use

Thanks for your reply, MC. Your TotalMix software is so feature-rich that I am sometimes confused about where the boundary exists between it and Auria as I'm learning to record with my iPad.

I checked in Auria yesterday and didn't find it - sems I was right and Auria simply misses that basic functionality.

Re: Help with MS Proc use

Since my post here and your suggestion MC, the Auria forum has provided a good platform for exploring how to accomplish M/S Encoding with their iPad software. Two posts there now explain how to do it with both the regular and Pro versions of Auria.
