Topic: ADI-648 Optical Jack Quality Problem?

Hi, new to the forum.
We have used this model in our product for a number of years. Recently, but has probably been for a year or so we are finding that plugging in a TOSLink cable to any of the jacks results in the jack breaking the little flap off as you insert the connector. You don't become aware of this until you come to remove the connector, which we do whilst commissioning our equipment. We have tried various manufacturers cables and have found that they differ in how tight some of them are in the jack, & others insert Ok and don't cause the damage. We haven't changed our cable supplier over the years and are mystified why this has just started happening or that we have only just noticed. Have RME changed the supplier of the Optical Jacks hey fit to the ADI-648

Is anybody else suffering from this?

Thanks

Re: ADI-648 Optical Jack Quality Problem?

Daniel thank you. Yes we will need to get them repaired but we are talking about an ongoing issue where the Optical Jack shutters are being broken now on a regular basis. We are trying to resolve why this has just started to happen. we can get the broken Jacks replaced, and we have a lot of them now, but as soon as we plug another cable in it will break the shutter?
We would like a representative to come and witness the problem we have. The complication we have is that the units are supplied by one of our integrators based in the Netherlands, so we are not buying the units directly ourselves. Rather than just return them to get them repaired, we need to find out what is causing this and why it has just started happening?
If you know who would be best to get in touch with to discuss this with in the UK I would appreciate their contact details.

Alan

Re: ADI-648 Optical Jack Quality Problem?

If these units were purchased in Holland, please contact said integrator.

There is no "ongoing issue". This is a third-party component, there have been a limited number of such broken flaps (also, your units have been in use for a number of years). No real need for a visit or an in-depth analysis, we have seen such cases and they are easy to fix. The replacements will not have these issues.
