Topic: AES as insert channel

Hello all,
I have owned the UFX for a year now, and have never looked back. Best investment along this journey to date. Thanks RME.
Ok, I am looking at the s/pdif in/out on my Lexicon MPX 500 and the unused connections on the UFX.
I have ordered S/pdif to AES connectors in hope that I can accomplish this.
I think I could do this from the analog in/outs from reading the manual / posts, but can this be achieved with AES > S/PDIF?

Appreciate your time,
Randy

Re: AES as insert channel

I'm pretty sure that it will work.  I made a XLR to XLR patch cable from AES out to AES in, to use as 2 mono groups. It works great.  The only problem with using the analogues is that it will add quite a bit of latency, digital won't. Good luck!

Re: AES as insert channel

Thanks for the reply. Currently I have AES out > S/PDIF in on the Lexicon with a compressor patched into the 1/4" jacks on the lexicon, then S/Pdif out > AES in.
Using the lexicon as convertor to add 2 extra channels.
Is it then possible to use this path to print / commit real time compression into my recording software tracks?
Hope that explanation makes sense.
Just scratching the surface of total mix.
Seemingly if you can imagine it, you can route it.
Thanks in advance
Randy
