Topic: ADI-648 routing question, using Coax and Optical

Hello,

I’m using MADI Coax in to my ADI-648 from a Motu 112D(Logic Sequencer), and then running MADI Optical out to an SSL Deltalink and into Pro Tools. I can hear everything just fine within Pro Tools, but can’t figure out how to get MADI back to the Motu 112D. The Motu only has MADI Coax FYI. For some reason I can't hear anything when I send signal from Pro Tools back to the 112D, but maybe the fact that the Deltalink is using Optical, and the Motu Coax has something to do with it? I wouldn't think so since I'm able to successfully send signal into Pro Tools.

Do I need to change any settings in the ADI-648 to make this work?

Thank you,
Felix

Re: ADI-648 routing question, using Coax and Optical

The 648 is not a bi-directional MADI converter per se, but a MADI to/from ADAT converter. To use it as MADI to MADI converter you have to either connect all ADAT I/Os from in to out and back (stupid proposal, just mentioned to understand the signal flow), or use the included patchbay to route all MADI in 8-channel blocks directly to all MADI out 8-channel blocks and vice versa.

Thank you Matthias,
Is the "included patchbay" a downloadable software that I'd need to run, or are you referring to a section on the front panel?
I tried connecting all ADAT I/Os in to out and I'm still unable to send signal out via MADI coax.

I am (of course) referring to the 8 channel 16x16 Matrix on the right side. Please check the manual on how to use it.

Re: ADI-648 routing question, using Coax and Optical

I did check the manual, and have been trying different configurations in that section, but I'm still not seeing any output.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in that section, I need to have all 8 MADI input lights correspond to the output lights directly underneath?

Re: ADI-648 routing question, using Coax and Optical

Correct. Re-reading your first post it seems you are trying something that is not possible. As mentioned the 648 is not a bi-directional MADI to MADI converter. It will send the optical OR coaxial MADI input to BOTH MADI outputs at the same time. That is a one way street.
