Topic: How to keep using Digiface with modern computer?

Hello All,
I need to keep using my Digiface/ADI 8-DS rig with a new laptop, so I was hoping someone could suggest a reasonably priced path to make this happen. The old rig was a bit pricey at the time, and it seems unreasonable, and impractical to throw it in the junk heap just because computer manufacturer's change, relatively quickly, the interfaces that they wish to include. Maybe RME could post a FAQ on how to keep their products adaptable to this frequent and inevitable change.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Re: How to keep using Digiface with modern computer?

Times for cardbus are over. For express card you can get laptops.

Then you require this interface card to connect the Digiface:

If you have it, then all is fine, otherwise price tag around €389: https://shop.synthax.de/ItemDetail.aspx … 0&pr=0

Other option would be to invest into a more modern interface and sell the old stuff to support this. There are no such interfaces available anymore comparable to the Digiface, specialized into offering multiple ADAT IN and OUTs.

You would need to look into an Firewire / USB / Thunderbolt solution, to get at least 2 ADAT IN / OUT: 802, UFX, UFX+.
But these interface already have 8 analog inputs and outputs. Also a reason to eventually sell all the rest to support buying one of there.

I would get the RME UFX as long as the promotion is running. The price is simply hot.

But then you need to hurry up in your decision, as the promotion ends around mid of January. And .. you do not have so send an old interface back ... you simply get the UFX to the very nice price.

A more cost efficient solution would be to change from Laptop to Desktop and get a RME RayDAT to connect the ADI via ADAT. Desktop is better anyway in terms of performance.

Re: How to keep using Digiface with modern computer?

Thanks for the great advice ramses,
You definitely pointed me in the right direction with this, maybe HDSPe with Sonnet Echo Pro Express could be the solution for me, Thunderbolt seems like it might be here for a while.
I hope RME will keep updating their excellent drivers for the HDSP/HDSPe line for the foreseeable future, I have had, for the most part, flawless and excellent performance from them.
Thanks again
