Topic: RME UFX & External Effects

Hi Guys, recently copped a UFX - blown away by it
Quick question -  sorry but not explained very clearly in Document

I want to add external effect units to the signal chain

I already have the 8 analog inputs used up

So I guess I have to use the additional MIC inputs?
And then route channels to be processed by effects unit using TotalMix

Or is this completely wrong?

Any help would be much appreciated

Pete

Re: RME UFX & External Effects

The mic inputs can also be used with line signals. The effects chain is usually defined in the DAW, not in TotalMix FX.

Re: RME UFX & External Effects

many thanks for your reply

however it is possible to use the rme without a daw
you can record directly to harddisk via usb port

so I would like to add an effects unit to the chain and apply effects to certain channels

so how do i do this?

is it:
effects unit audio in (cable from one of the rme outputs)
rme mic audio in (cable from effects unit out)
and route which rme audio channels get processed via this channel?

sorry for my lack of knowledge.....

is there any videos or information where this is explained? all i seem to see if stuff referening the effects delivered internally in the rme itself

Re: RME UFX & External Effects

anyone using effects with the rme ufx?

Re: RME UFX & External Effects

I use an outboard Lexicon for some of my stuff. I have two channels of hardware out that goes to the inputs of the outboard effects Stereo input. Then the effects processor out into two open channels of the RME Fireface UFX. I have mine set up as the return on channels 7 and 8, but I have routed them through inputs 11 and 12 before, which are on the front of the unit. Works fine after getting the levels set in TotalMix FX.
