Topic: Mic / Headset on ADI-2 Pro & ADI-2 DAC

Hi All,

likey a noob question, but i wasn't able to get firm answer anywhere.

I'd like to operate the ADI Pro as a high quality sound card on my Windows PC.

Would I be able to plug in and use my headdset mic (beyerdynamic MMX 300) for daily use?

Main prupose of course is high quality music, not Skype or chat.

Thank you for any hints

Norbert

Re: Mic / Headset on ADI-2 Pro & ADI-2 DAC

The ADI-2 Pro / DAC has no mic inputs.
But you can use it to listen to music as headphone.

The other thing is .. even if you had a recording Interface with Mic preamps ...
Such consumer headsets usually have a condenser mic which is not compatible with 48V Phantom Power (studio standard).
They work on much lower level and are only compatible to PC soundcards.

There are heaphones with a real condenser micros compatible to 48V phantom power available,
but then the headsets are usually much more expensive.

But as the ADI-2 Pro doesnt have Mic Preamps anyway, you can only use the phones for listening to music.

I would ask the manufacturer, what type of condenser mic this is and whether its compatible to 48V phantom power or not.

Re: Mic / Headset on ADI-2 Pro & ADI-2 DAC

The short answer is no, you can't plug the mic directly into ADI-2 Pro. Although the mic in MMX 300 is rather strange, it is condenser one, but the manual says not to use phantom power from a mic pre (as you normally do with condensers), or you can damage it. My guess is that you need to use something like this in between:

But avoid using the +48 v phantom power in your case.

ADDED, I see we posted almost simultaneously with Ramses.

In his case he has no phantom power on the ADI-2 Pro / DAC. There are no mic inputs with these converters.

Thats what I meant .. this mic is suited for PC soundcards

"1.5 - 9 V Current consumption"

Re: Mic / Headset on ADI-2 Pro & ADI-2 DAC

Strange one indeed.

I figure the mic needs pip power, but Beyer uses "AB power". And that can't be true, since it is unbalanced.
