Topic: Can a Babyface be used as just a monitor controller?

Let's say I have 2 FF800's.  And a Babyface (old).  I like the accessibility of having the desktop controller, but if I have the FF800's, I don't really need the Babyface as an interface.  So can the Babyface be used as just a monitor controller?

I don't think so. I would get an ARC USB, its very attractive from price.
Connect the ARC USB to the PC via USB.
TotalMix FX does then the interfacing between ARC USB and the recording interface.
As you have two FF800 you need to deactivate ARC USB for one of the two TM FX instances (one instance per FF800).
I would activate the ARC USB on the FF800 where also Monitors and Phones are connected to.
