Topic: HDSPe Madi Analog Out converter
Hey there forum.
Anyone knows how good is the DAC on the Madi HDSPe card (Analog out) for studio monitoring?
How is the converter compered to an ADI DS? (Better or worst?)
Thanks in advance

Hi
what do you mean by studio monitoring ? Via phones or speaker ?
HDSPe MADI has a phones output, unbalanced operation only.
The ADI DS (which is not on the market anymore) has servo-symmetric analog I/O for balanced and unbalanced operation, but no dedicated phones output.
Nowadays I would suggest a 3rd option: To take the ADI-2 Pro FS to connect monitors / phones like outlined here: https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ind … tup-EN-DE/. For this option its best is to have a recording device with TotalMix FX and then to connect the ADI-2 Pro FS digitally via either AES, ADAT, optical or coax SPDIF.
I mean studio monitors (Speakers)
You can change the analog out of the HDSPe from phones to line output from what i understand.
At the moment i am monitoring thru an ADI DS and wanted to know if i would be better off monitoring thru the HDSPe analog out. I do not have the option to get a dedicated DAC at the moment.
As the HDSPe MADI sits inside the computer the DS most probably delivers a cleaner signal. Why not try it?
But how does the converter itself compares ?

The pure technical data you can look-up in the handbook of the two products.

In terms of sound I would listen / compare and choose what you like more.
Otherwise see MC's proposals.
