Topic: I need and understanding about inputs and outputs

Hello everyone. I'm really noob on this subject and I want to learn more, but I can't find anything with the information I want or maybe I don't know how to search.

Imagine the Babyface Pro... can you someone explain me how does it have 12 inputs/ouputs? Am I not seeing something? without the SPDIF I just see 4 ins and for outs, nor 4 ins/outputs.

ADAT optical port = 8 channels @44.1/48 kHz.

How does the ADAT has 8 channels if I can connect only one cable? Sorry for this kinda noob questions but i really want to understand this and want to get in touch with this world.
