Topic: Fireface 400 Digital Crackling Noise

Hi all,

Got a Fireface 400 running on an iMac 2011 i7. Still running Mavericks.

Don’t know why but the fireface plays up all the time. For example iTunes. The Mac is constantly on, when I login it is the luck of the draw if music will play without crackling or making digital scretching noises. If it works ok straight away it will play songs fine until I change the song or pause it. Then it can go back to crackling, etc.

Very very frustrating. The only way I get around it is shutting the Mac down & turning on again

Running the old fireface mixer, not sure if I can run Totalmix

Unit v1.70
Fireface Mixer 3.19

Any ideas how to fix this? It’s very frustrating!

Did that ever work on that machine without issues? Did you try a different FW cable, other FW ports on both sides, and a new external power supply?

Yeah it used to work fine. Been happening for so long now I don’t know what triggered it. Good idea I’ll try a different port for starters.

Any idea if there’s a newer firmware & can is there a version of Totalmix that would work?

The latest driver 3.35 has the latest TM FX and will work with the FF400. Firmware 1.70 is ok, you could update to 1.71 though, but won't notice a difference.
