Topic: Aggregate ADI-2 DAC & UCX on Mac

Hi,
My new ADI-2 DAC arrives tomorrow (17th Jan 2019) and I am going over the possible sets ups for a MacBook Pro laptop.

I would like to run this by the forum and I am of course open to suggestions.


Set Up 1
UCX connected through Firewire
ADI-2 DAC connected through USB

Aggregate devices - UCX for input
                              ADI-2 for output


Set Up 2
UCX connected through USB (input and output)
ADI-2 DAC standalone

Toslink to ADI-2 DAC and route through TotalMiX - SPDIF



I am wondering if there will be any advantages or disadvantages for each set up.

Setup 1 doesn't work. You would need to clock slave the ADI-2 DAC via SPDIF from the UCX, or the Aggregate device will fail.

Does that mean it is not possible to set the ADI-2 DAC as slave to the UCX as master via Toslink SPDIF?


I guess Set UP 3 would be to just use the devices separately. UCX for recording sessions and the ADI-2 DAC for mixing/mastering sessions.

This is not a problem really. It would actually help me to focus more on the task in hand.

Sure that works, but then the USB connection is obsolete...

OK!

So we have morphed Set up 1 into Set up 2    :  )


The ADI-2 has arrived now and I have been listening to music for the last hour or two.

Not sure how I feel about it...although I have been singing along and hitting notes that I have never hit before, so it must be good.
