Topic: Db level on AN 1-8 and MIC input 9-12 is -95db, is this normal?

I have nothing plugged into the interface. Only the interface is on. All faders and gain is 0.

Should the MIC and AN inputs read UFL or -129db etc?

There is a button called RMS on the right side. Then you will see better numbers. -129 dB would mean something is defective.

This is what I mean (screenshot).

That's with nothing plugged in. And those numbers fluctuate about 5db or so

The manual will explain to you the difference between showing Peak and RMS values. Also these are analog inputs, they do have noise, matching the tech specs from the manual (ADC).

Look I'm not that technical with this stuff I'm just a guitar player. I don't know all the ins and outs.

I just want to know is: with nothing plugged, just UFX into computer, all faders and gain set to 0, should the analog and mic inputs be displaying values? Or should they display UFL?

The only thing I can think may have damaged it is that I've been turning on my mic pre after turning on my UFX. And I am running the mic pre out into the line in (AN 1) on the UFX.

Oh I understand what you mean now! I found the botton on the right and the values are more correlated to the instruction manual

AD, Line In 1-8, rear
• Signal to Noise ratio (SNR): 110 dB RMS unweighted, 113 dBA

Microphone In 9-12, front
• Signal to Noise ratio (SNR): 112 dB RMS unweighted, 115 dBA

The only problem now is that they are 5 db off? Is this normal? (screenshot in link)

Re: Db level on AN 1-8 and MIC input 9-12 is -95db, is this normal?

If the mic input is connected to AN1, this 5db diff. is the noise coming in through that cable. You can check that by switching the cable to AN2. And yes if that is the cause that is normal. All my ADI-8AE inputs read -110db until I plug something in it. Even when off.
And I am sure if you turn the mic pre on with a mic connected at the proper level, noise is much higher.
