Topic: UFX AES/EBU output to Barefoot MM27 Gen2 monitors.

Hi folks,
Have a bit of a weird one.
I have just purchased some 110 Ohm digital cables and a Sescom AES Y-split (impedance matching) to drive my Barefoot MM27 Gen2's via their AES inputs.

I also have one of these to split the single cable out to the two monitors.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...g_AES_EBU.html  ... to make sure the impedance is correct when splitting.

If I plug the splitter into the UFX, then plug both cables into the splitter, I get no signal. If I unplug one of the cables from the splitter, the other works.

However, if I make it a chain split. ie split at the first speaker (as per below), not the back of the UFX and change the UFX AES setting to "Consumer" (not Professional), it works.

However I am getting a few clicks every so often.

Has anyone here done this with a pair of Barefoots and got it all working correctly?

Regards,
Digitally confused Matt.

Wow, that seems like a little bit of overkill for what I need to do.

How long are the cables ?
I proposed an active splitter, because I assume that you run simply into problems with passive splitting.

In this articles it sounds that in the 1st AES standards it was allowed to passively split AES into up to 4 destinations.
But this has been removed from the standards.
I assume because it works only for much shorter cables and that it didn't work reliably, depending on cables and circuits on source and destination side.

There are monitors, which have already such a splitter built-in like the Neumann KH310D.

With my Geithain RL906D I also had to look for another solution, the solution for me was to get an active splitter to not run into trouble. Another thing was for me, that such an Y-Cable was only available in an US shop and that it was quite expensive. Therefore I decided to invest into a more common quality solution.

Another idea might be to use maybe two different outputs of an Octamic XTC, if you have one, which has 4 AES outputs.
But I am not 100% sure whether this is a valid way to do it to feed the AES monitors by two different sources.

Re: UFX AES/EBU output to Barefoot MM27 Gen2 monitors.

Hi Ramses,
Thanks for the detailed information.
The 110 Ohm cables are much longer than I need them to be (10m each). They could be half the length and would still be plenty.
I might cut them down by half and see how I go (or maybe even shorter).  As I said, the system works (with the occasion audible click, so it's perfect) in the section's working scenario.

I'll let you know how I go.

Thanks again.

Ok, so a little update....Used 3m cables and the situation changed a lot..  Had to change setting back to “Professional” to get audio... Lot’s more digital crackling.
Going to stick with analogue for now.
