Topic: Raspberry Pi 3B+ pops n clicks

There doesn't seem to be a similar problem already reported so here it goes...

I'm experiencing some pops or clicks when playing music from my raspberry pi (connected through USB). They aren't very loud, random in period (every 20 to 30s-ish), not always the exact same sound, all outputs are affected. Occurs on all PCM sample rates i've tried. Didn't do DSD.

Thing I have tried:
- Play from Win10 machine on ADI-2. No pops n clicks now.
- Revert back to factory settings. Stays the same.
- Playing the same sounds stream parrallel to the ADI-2 and some other DAC. Only ADI is affected.
- Executed bit test, all sample rates passed

System info:
ADI-2 DAC (firmware 26/30)

Raspberry pi info:

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ cat /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch)"
NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux"
VERSION_ID="9"
VERSION="9 (stretch)"
ID=raspbian
ID_LIKE=debian
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ cat /proc/device-tree/model
Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Plus Rev 1.3
pi@raspberrypi:~ $ uname -r
4.19.66-v7+

Playing over ALSA to "hw:CARD=DAC58741155,DEV=0", no conversions or DSP

Re: Raspberry Pi 3B+ pops n clicks

It's a known problem of rpi 3. upgrading to 4 will solve the issue.

Re: Raspberry Pi 3B+ pops n clicks

Adding a Digiberry solves it for a Raspi 3B+. If you want to stick to USB, get a 4.

Re: Raspberry Pi 3B+ pops n clicks

It seems to be some USB related problem, which is strange because my other DAC's are just fine.

For now it doesn't really bother me too much. I purchased the ADI-2 for my office setup (Win10). I was just trying to do an A/B comparison with my current DAC when i noticed the problem.

Somewhere in my closet is a HifiBerry Digi-pro gathering dust, so that is a good alternative...
