Topic: Cannot get any audio output with 9652 and ADA8000

On advise from a friend to upgrade my system I recently purchased a 9652 card and have it set to where my inputs are the ADA8000 into the ADAT out of that card plug in to the ADAT1 in on the 9652.  I am able to have sgnal in as I see it in my DAW and in Total Mix.

Output is from ADAT1 out of the 8652 into the ADAT in on the ADA8000.  Zero sound,  nothing  I have tested the ADA8000 on another system and it does work.  I cannot figure out for the life of me how to ensure I have properly routed the output signal because I am trying to make sense of three different manuals where none of the manuals reference any of the setting windows installed through the current drivers.  This is an on going issue over the past two weeks and I am about to call it quits and return the RME card.  The only reference while using the search function on this forum is one where tech support tells the author of the thread to reference the other thread with no way to know what thread he was talking about.

At this point I dont know what to do and losing faith in this piece of gear fast.

Hello!

Can you post a screenshot of your TotalMixFX and of the Hammerfall DSP settings?

Most probably you have SPDIF set as format for the ADAT 1 output.

@MetalheadKeys if you need anything more in depth please let me know.

@MC I am not using SPDIF so why would I have checked it as it is not a default setting?

The settings are stock settings while trying to follow along with the most recent manual.

I have tried all analog outs from my hardware as well as ADAT 1 through 3 on the Card.  I am at a total loss as I was using it exactly the same way but with a Focusrite 1394 Interface just two weeks ago.  Mic into Behringer ADA8000 light piped out to ADAT in on the interface, ADAT out on the interface to ADAT in on the ADA8000, Analog 1-8 outputs(it never mattered which I chose as they all work.  Just had to choose a pair via software) pair to Powered monitors.

I see signal in Totalmix, but no audio is passing through to the Behringer unit.

I can pass signal through the Integrated audio through the Behringer via SPDIF out on the computer (not the RME card).

Pic 1 clearly shows you DO have checked it.

At the end of the day you set ADAT1 to SPDIF...

Set SPDIF IN i.e. to coaxial and under SPDIF OUT untick the checkbox for ADAT1.

It can't work if you set the RME card to expect and send SPDIF protocol via TOSLINK and the other end sends / expects ADAT protocol...

Remember, you can run two different protocols over such a TOSLINK cable ...

a) SPDIF, 2 channel up to 192 kHz sample rate
b) ADAT, 8 channel @44.1/48 kHz and if double/quad speed are supported
             4 channel @88.2/96 kHz
             2 channel @176.4/192 kHz

... and the two devices hooked together need to be set to the proper/same protocol.
If you have a 8 port Mic Preamp, then only ADAT makes sense to be able to have 8 channels over this TOSLINK connection @44.1/48 kHz.

I set the SPDIF in to Coaxial and Sync has no lock now.  You are the second person to mention setting it this way. I will have to go purchase a Word Clock cable to connect the HDSP card and my input device.  I f I set the input device to master, the unit locks with the RME card.  If set to slave it unlocks and I lose seeing it within any of the software.

I have a couple errands to run this morning and I will pick up that cable while I am out  I was under the impression I wouldn't need that cable, but no worries.

Re: Cannot get any audio output with 9652 and ADA8000

If you want the 9652 as Master, you should set the Clock, in the HDSP settings, to "Internal" and set the switch on the back of the ADA8000 to "ADAT In".

Also, as Ramses and MC have said, set SPDIF In to "coaxial" and untick the checkbox for ADAT1(under the SPDIF Out section)
Then everything will work as they should!

You don't need the BNC cable, unless there is a problem with the Behringer's ADAT In or your 9652 ADAT Out Port(which I doubt, but you never know)
