Topic: ADI 2 DAC versions: How to tell one from the other

Hello,

I am very close to buying an ADI 2 DAC from Bax music shop in the Netherlands.

However, it seems there may be as many as 3 versions from the oldest to the newest.

How can I check that they will provide me with the latest version. Are there telltale differences that are easily visible?

Thank you for your help.

I purchased my adi 2 dac in July, so I would think it would be version 3,  unless it’s old stock.
I know that vs 2 boards have black writing on the caps.  Version 3 as red writing on the caps.
Which I think are nichicon.
No way of knowing unless you look inside.

Here are pics of board layouts  for each vs...

Ask before buying if they are new stock.

The latest version has the bigger remote control with 22 keys, olders have 11 keys.
It features a new DAC filter "SD low dispersion".

Sometimes called 2020 version.

Kais. Is correct about the version, larger remote ect.... and extra filter.

It sounded like he was asking about board versions. Of which there are 3 versions.

Re: ADI 2 DAC versions: How to tell one from the other

I guess there are much more than three board versions, but you don't see them until you open up the ADI-2 and void warranty.

Different colored parts are no clear sign of a different board version.

I thought the topic starter just wants to make sure he gets the latest device version with all new features.

Re: ADI 2 DAC versions: How to tell one from the other

A friend of mine bought the adi dac from same store as me one week after me.
He received v1.  God knows what happened there,  he wasn’t impressed. Ha,  he returned it.

He then received v2, and still different from mine,   Mine has a Kingston lock on the rear his didn’t.

It’s a bit of a crapshoot.

On the link provided, we can see there are indeed 3 versions of the mainboard.

But... who cares about the mainboard sub-version ???

  • V1: little remote, AK4490

  • V2: large remote, AK4493

seems to me the only relevant versions for the end consumer...

Black are Nichicon, red are Würth Elektronik (and yes it does sound the same, no warmer sound for the red ones wink )
