Topic: Advantages of 56 or 64 channel madi mode ?

I'm using a madi FX with and SSL alphalink AX

The alphalink has 24 analog and 24 adat (3x8) I/O - 48 I/O in total

I' configured this to 56 channel mode - is there any advantage/disadvantage to using 56 or 64 channel mode

It seems 56 channel mode allows a little more +/- on the actual sample frequency (is this an advantage?)

I'm only running at 44.1khz/48khz

????

Re: Advantages of 56 or 64 channel madi mode ?

Hi Orange,

IMHO it doesn't matter for single speed, if changing of sample rate is not required for you.

BTW .. in the XTC manual, ch 13.3, RME recommends to use 64ch, 96k frame size, look here:
https://www.rme-audio.de/download/octamicxtc_d.pdf
https://www.rme-audio.de/download/octamicxtc_e.pdf

If 96k frame size is supported by all devices, then automatic sample rate recognition over 48 kHz is possible.
Take what you prefer / need.
