At the beginning a MADI module was an option, later XTC's became it equipped per default.
If you check the XTC manual (p. 8) there you see still a photo of the back of older units with "MADI (option)" above the ports.
On newer it has been renamed to: "MADI OPTICAL": https://archiv.rme-audio.de/images/prod … xtc_4b.jpg
Thanks Ramses ! This explains it !
The Youtube video from Synthax audio UK shows the old version and tells that MADI is optional.
Good to know the history. I have to clarify this with the dealer before buying.
Can I use the Octamic XTC as USB audio interface ?
Connecting direct with USB cable to the Macbook and recording 8 mics ?
Or is this interface capability CC-mode only ?
The user manual is very annoying for me ! I am sorry for saying this but there is some improvement possible.
Me Mac-nerd (Windows-hater) like the option to choose user manual for Mac or user manual for Windows.
i click the Mac version.
And what is hurting my eyes ?
WDM, ASIO, installation unter Windows, Gerätemanager, etc etc, I have to delete the half user manual !
Ha, ha!
It's the same manual, as you've found out! With a section dedicated to each OS(where there are differences), and common sections(TMFX etc) when there are no differences between OSs.
One manual to rule them all...!
There exist no XTC without MADI ports. The option thing was pre-release. When it came out it had MADI optical all time. This becomes fully clear by reading the manual as it nowhere talks about optional nor lists any such option under Acessories. MADI is always described as regular feature.
Thanks for the clarification. Then I must have remembered it wrong, no wonder I only ever found reviews of devices with MADI. Then this probably older picture in the manual (p. 8) had led me on the wrong track ;-)

Prepare facepalm protection !
Especially after timestamp 0:55

Nobody needs a facepalm here. This video is from July 2013, shot 4 weeks before the first units were in the stores. These even had the (Option) print, but MADI was there.
