Topic: Weird behavior with SPIDF

Hi folks

I have a UFX II and i'm trying to plug a UAD Oxbox (guitar attenuator and cab sim) that outputs SPIDF out through the optical cable. I connected the Ox SPIDF out to the ADAT '1' in on the RME and could never get any signal.

I tried connecting another interface i have through the same cable to the same ADAT 1 and connected a source to that interface and the RME was able to read the ADAT input just fine.

I also connected the Ox Box to a Babyface pro ADAT in and it worked nicely

The only thing i tried and worked as a last resort was to simply plug the optical into ADAT 2 instead of ADAT 1 and then from the USB settings set optical 2 input to SPIDF.

Two questions:

- Is there no such setting for ADAT 1? that doesn't make sense but the software doesn't show a selection
- In my case where it worked, i expected the signal to show up in one of the ADAT inputs, but it's showing up under AES

Really appreciate any pointers this is driving my crazy and i worry the setup is subpar sonically because of this

Re: Weird behavior with SPIDF

Works as designed, only ADAT2 can be switched to SPDIF protocol.

This you can
a) deduce from the settings dialog, this protocol switch is only available for ADAT2 (as you did already)
b) find in the manual when searching for "SPDIF", 1st hit on page 10.

"ADAT1 I/O. TOSLINK. Standard ADAT optical port, 8 channels.
ADAT2 I/O. TOSLINK. Standard ADAT optical port, 8 channels. Can also be used as optical SPDIF input and output, if set up accordingly in the Settings dialog."

The Digiface USB is the only RME interface where all 4 ADAT ports can also be set to SPDIF protocol.

Thank you very much for the info! Appreciate your input
