Topic: Static UFXii using OBS / Zoom

Hi guys,

I recently upgraded from my trust FF800 to the UFXii. Tbh, it hasn't been the most enjoyable experience, i miss the knobs, but more importantly i am having a lot of static / clipping intermittent issue; and it's specific to using OBS, or ZOOM and those streaming type services.

I don't have any issues when recording to my DAW. If i unplug and set up my FF800 - all good. Anyone offer any help?

Cheers in advance!

Andy

Hello!

Did you try increasing the buffer?
Driver and firmware versions?(numbers, please)

Also, are you on Windows or Mac?

Hi, thanks for the reply

Frimware v21
Driver v3.25

Where is the buffer option? I understand in a DAW, but not standalone?

Cheers

Re: Static UFXii using OBS / Zoom

You 're welcome!

I see from the Driver version that you 're on Mac.
Unfortunately, I 'm a PC user and have no clue about Macs, so you 're gonna have to wait for another member 's answer.
Isn't there any option for buffer settings in OBS or Zoom?

Also, the firmware version is outdated, here is the up-to-date one: https://rme-audio.de/downloads/fut_madiface_mac.zip

Yep, on mac. I hadn't realised my firmware was out of date - i'll update and see if that helps.

I can't find a buffer setting anywhere, it doesn't sound like a buffer issue, it's very intermittent - sounds like a routing problem. Hard to explain. I'll keep playing!

cheers

Ok, so i updated all my firmware and drivers etc etc ... no i genuinely cannot record using the UFXii. It monitors normal using TotalMix, but as soon as i start recording in Logic or even Bandcamp; i get this weird clipping / glitchy noise over the top of the recording.

Please have a listen to the file:

If i plug in my old FF800 - all is well. Anyone offer any further assistance?

SETUP:

Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch Mid 2014
2.5 quad core intel core i7
16GB DDR3 RAM

UFXii
Firmware v22
Driver v3.25

Maybe you could try a different sample rate or change it latency setting? or routing? You sound like has some jitters, but I'm also new to this device, I got my UFX+ yesterday, so I'm not sure what's going wrong.

Did you try a different USB cable and all USB ports of your Mac ?

You didn't tell, which MacOS version you have installed. Driver 3.25 is for Big Sur (3.11) and "beyond".
So it could be the case, that you picked the wrong driver, please check.
Proposal, please put the most important information about your setup to the signature (OS version, HW, ..).

Not sure whether it could be related to your problem, but please check, that the UFX II is not in Class Compliant mode.
See manual chapter 33.

Do you have the possibilities to check the UFX II with another Windows PC or another Mac to find out whether this could be a device defect ?

Does your Mac also support Thunderbolt ?  I don't want to scare you, but I want to make the point early. I would contact the seller about the problems and ask to extend the return period from possibly 2 weeks to 4 weeks if there is such a thing in your country when buying online. Usually they do that, it is also an advantage for the retailer if you get more time to solve the problem yourself. I would ask if he has a UFX+ in stock. It would also be worth considering getting a UFX+ in parallel and then keeping the one that ultimately works.

What I always recommend in my interface consultations: with a UFX+ you always have three options for connecting to the Mac/PC: USB3, Thunderbolt and even USB2 (then as a 30-channel interface without MADI). If for some reason one doesn't work, then you still have two alternatives. Plus scalability and the possibility to use free MADI channels for loopback recording / routings in cases where you might need ADAT and AES for other things.

Yes, i tried a different cable to same result.

My OS is Big Sur 11.4

I'll check for class compliant - thank you for pointing that out.

I'm going to check on another system once restrictions lift.

I have a thunderbolt port, and I am outside the returns period. I opted not to get the UFX+ as it was way more than i needed. tbh, the FF800 is plenty - but the dry tracking of vocals etc wasn't always pleasant, UFXii with fx on it is much nicer .... or was! lol

Thank you for all the feedback, really appreciate the help! smile
