Topic: Babyface Pro FS audio out

Hi, I have a stupid question, and I couldn't find an answer in the manual. I just ordered a Babyface Pro FS in order to use my e-drums to trigger Superior Drummer 3. The drum module is sending MIDI over USB to my Mac, and audio will be output to the interface. I would like to monitor from my drum module, so one option of course would be to go from the headphone out to the module's single MIX IN port with a TRS cable. A cleaner (less clutter on the desktop) option would be to use the analog outs on the rear of the interface, but I'm not super familiar with XLR connections. Is each of the two line outputs stereo, or mono? Basically I'm trying to decide what kind of cable I need to get a stereo signal back to my drum module: a single XLR to TRS, or a Y-cable with two  XLR connectors on one end and a TRS on the other? And if I have to use the Y-cable from both line outs, does it matter if one is male and the other is female?

Re: Babyface Pro FS audio out

Hello!

Not a stupid question, at all !

The (male)XLR Outputs of the BF Pro FS are Balanced Mono Outputs.
The (female)XLR Inputs are Balanced Mono Inputs.

What you are trying to do, can be done with either a 'Stereo' TRS to TRS cable, from the Phones Output
or a 2 female XLR to TRS 'Y' cable from the XLR Outputs of the BF Pro FS!

Here 's a link describing the difference of Balanced vs Unbalanced cables:

Awesome - that's exactly what I needed to know. Cheers!

Sorry, one more quick question - what about a short Y-cable that has two female XLRs into one male XLR? Could I then use a female XLR to male TRS the rest of the way?

Re: Babyface Pro FS audio out

99 per cent, yes!

The remaining 1 per cent is for one of the cables to not have the same wiring, but no harm in trying!
If you get lots of noise, then that would be the case.

Else, it 's gonna work, perfectly!

Info about the wiring for the BF Pro FS, can be found at page 86 of the manual:
