Topic: Can I use FF800 as an external converter for UFX+?

So i'm thinking of default routing analog inputs to ADAT OUT, and ADAT IN to analog out, then connecting it to UFX+.
Can it sync itself via ADAT I/O or would i need wordclock?

Could i have loopback latency mismatch if I i.e. go from UFX+ out to FF800 in?

I also found a fairly cheap Steinberg Nuendo 8 i/o, supposedly ADI 8 DS mkI. Unfortunately no preamps. How to these hold up in 2021?

Re: Can I use FF800 as an external converter for UFX+?

Best use UFX+ as clock master (clock source = "internal"). Provide also a TOSLINK cable from UFX+ ADAT OUT to FF800 ADAT IN so that it can get clock from optical (clock source = ADAT) as clock save. Fully sufficient, WC not required.

UFX+ will be your main interface and a DAW/application can only load one ASIO driver (-> UFX+ MADIface driver).
Then Loopback will work only inside of the UFX+, but of course you can use loopback on an ADAT port, eg ADAT 1/2 OUT.
If you enable looback on that HW output, then audio can be recorded on corresponding input ADAT1/2 IN.

If you have an audio signal on ADAT1/2 IN coming from FF800, then this audio signal is not lost because of loopback operation.
The signal is still there at the input and can be routed to another free HW output. Then you can use loopback again and finally record it from this corresponding HW input.

The specs are in the manuals .. see here and for RME you know the locations ...
