Topic: Which chip do I have.

How can I tell which chip I have between the AKM or ESS chip. I read that a B is the 4493 and a C is the ESS chip but my box has neither. I don’t want to open it incase I got a 4490 somehow.
Thanks

Unfortunately I just see a grey line in that thread when I looked.

The letter is on the unit itself, not outside on the box.

Re: Which chip do I have.

ADI-2 DACs with AK4493 and ES9028Q2M are neither sonically nor visually easily distinguishable. However, the ESS version is recognized by a small C at the end of the serial number sticker (B stood for AKM 4493). Furthermore, the units differ in the available filters. The unit with AKM has a filter called Short Delay Low Dispersion, while the one with ESS has a filter called Brickwall (the other filters, SD Sharp, SD Slow, Sharp, Slow, NOS, are identical). Further Chip dependent differences are mentioned in the manual.

Do you mean that the JPG does not load ?

This is a browser related issue. Use Firefox, Chrome, Edge .. no problem with those.

Issues only with e.g. old IE (which is deprecated anyway), but only when loading from RME forum.
Therefore I gave the additional link in post #4 for the blog article on tonstudio-forum.de.
This article also includes this JPEG, from there even the old IE is able to load that JPG file.

N8, Check the serial number sticker next to the power input female port of your unit, at the end of the number, you will find B or C.

Yes, it doesn’t work in Safari/iDevice either, but the above does.

Did simply put it into [ img ]-brackets, removed the automated [ url ]-brackets and did care no extra blanks appear.

Thanks for your suggestion KaiS, but I don't want to point to tonstudio-forum.de for content of a sticky article on this forum.

A couple of years ago tonstudio-forum.de had to protect their site because of various very long and hard DoS attacks with Cloudflare as security provider. This also caused here and there problem for forum access there (by human/bot checks).
Therefore I'm afraid that one problem would only be exchanged with another one, therefore I prefer to stay on Dropbox. Dropbox has also more possibilities and thus higher availability. Tonstudio-forum.de was down a few times in the last couple of years.

What OS/browser do you use ? Sometimes it helps to "open the link in another tab".
