Topic: RayDat + Channel Status Data

We have just purchased a RayDAT card to replace our old 9632 sound card. (as our new PC only comes with PCIe slot)
We are using it with DIGICheck to read the Channel Status data from the SPDIF input. (mostly check the SCMS tag)
We noticed that, unlike our old 9632 card, with a similar setup and configuration, the DIGICheck software + RayDAT are not able to report any Channel Status data.

Is it something anyone aware before?
Is there any advice about how to setup RayDAT to report the channel status data?

Here is our setup information:
Win10 Pro 64bit
Hammerfall DSP v4.38
DIGICheck version 5.94

The SPDIF signal is passed from a TV direct to the input of ADAT4 port.
In Hammerfall DSP:
We ticked TMS, SPDIF in -> ADAT4, Clock source as Internal (also tried SPDIF)
In DigiCheck:
We confirmed that the channel setting has pointed to SPDIF, since the spectral analyser from DIGICheck reports the wave form.

Thank you very much in advance!

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

You are doing something wrong, and most probably something simple. For example

> The SPDIF signal is passed from a TV direct to the input of ADAT4 port.
> In Hammerfall DSP: We ticked TMS, SPDIF in -> ADAT4, Clock source as Internal

How is that supposed to work? The TV is clock master, and data readout will fail when the Settings dialog doesn't say SPDIF In SYNC.

Try again. Also make sure you selected SPDIF In L/R in DIGICheck and plugged the optical cable into the correct optical port. It works here and I see no reason why it should not.

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

Hi MC,

Thank you for the quick reply.

I have made following tweaks:

  • In Hammerfall DSP, set the clock source to "SPDIF In" and the clock mode shows "Current: SPDIF". The input status shows "SPDIF Sync 48kHz".

  • AES/SP. IN -> TMS remains ticked.

  • "SPDIF In" Selects ADAT4

  • In DigiCheck, opened the Channel Status Display -> Input Device Setup. Selected the driver as "ASIO HammerFall DSP", Bar 1 and 2 to "HDSP RayDAT" with "SPDIF L" and "SPDIF R" respectively. Source sets to "Input". Preferred sample rate 48kHZ (which is same as input status". Also Set Sample rate for ASIO inputs is ticked.

However, the issue remains.  No Channel Status data available.
We confirmed it is right plug from the TV since it only has one. And we are using the cable provided with the card.
We are using ADAT4 port on the card
May I also confirm that our OS (WIN10 Pro) would not be an issue?

Again that won't help - remove it.

To check the function simply connect ADAT 4 in and out with the same/one cable (loopback), set clock to Internal, and ADAT 4 Out as SPDIF. Now you MUST see the optical channel status, from the card itself.

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

Hello MC,

As you suggested, we:

  • Removed Set Sample rate for ASIO

  • Connect ADAT 4 ip and op with the same cable, as loopback

  • Set Clock to internal and tick SPDIF OUT as ADAT4. The current clock source shows as Master. Confirm TMS ticked.

  • We played a copy free content via VLC player. Spectral Analyser shows there is input.

Again, there is no channel status shows.

We do not think the content itself would be a problem. We will try big bunk bunny if you want us to try with. (It just takes hours to download them here).

If needed, we are also happy to share screenshot via email.

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

You do not need to play content. Channel Status is always there with SPDIF. The fact that you don't see it means there is still something wrong. So time for two screenshots of this last loopback setup:

Settings dialog
Input Selection of the Channel Status function (F3. You are aware that it has its own settings? It might be set to a different channel than the Spectrum Analyzer).

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

Hello Matthias,

Have you received our email?
Is there any suggestions on how to get the device work?

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

Hello,

I just got it forwarded from support. I reproduced your settings and it works. What firmware version does your RayDAT have?
And are you sure your DIGICheck is 5.94?

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

Hello Matthias,

I confirm that:
DigiCheck version - 5.94
RayDAT Driver Version - 4.3.8.0

Is there any other version you would like me to check?

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

And firmware raydat?

sorry, I thought driver version is what you are after.
How could I find the firmwareversion?
what is the expected version and how should I upgrade to it?

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

Download the firmware update tool for the RayDAT from our website and start it. You will see the current version.

Re: RayDat + Channel Status Data

Hello Matthias,

Based on your instruction, we have updated the firmware. It was version 13 and now it is version 16.
We re-checked the existing configuration and it remains as your suggested.
However, the issue remains the same.

Note. The Global bar in Hammerfall DSP now shows:
RayDAT(1), SN=23813929, Revision=16
