Topic: How to input external clock to ADI-2 Pro

I have read that it is not necessary for an external clock. Since inputting an external clock is part of the functions of the ADI-2 Pro, I wish to know the method of input.

Depends on your setup details.
USB clock always has priority.

With USB unplugged you can select the clock source from one of the digital inputs.

I input the clock using the coaxial input of the D-9, but cannot see it.

Unplug everything else - do you see the Coax?
Put audio on the Coax - do you hear it?

Which Mode is selected (manual page 34 ff)?

AD/DA mode
Put audio on Coax, ok, sound coming out.
I put clock on Coax, and audio on AES. How do I know that clock has been input?

Ah, that’s the question.

From the manual page 37:

AD/DA MODE: ... ”In case more than one digital signal is found the user has to manually select the source to be monitored. The SRC is active as default and assigned to SPDIF. Clock mode is slave to AES in, but will adapt to the detected source (Auto).”

So nothing to care about, except maybe switch off SRC.

IMO DAC mode is even easier to use, everything follows the selected input, basta.

Tks KaiS,
Now I change to DAC mode. The audio input is AEB. External clock is fed from co.
But I cannot set the RME to have the input from co. The display shows the input is AES and the display is grey and no manual setting is possible.

That‘s strange, I‘m in DAC-mode too as standard.
Optical is my link to my main stereo (I don‘t use ADI-2 Pro in my recording studio).

In DAC-mode “I/O / Main Output 1/2 / AD/DA Source” only selects the input.
In “Phones Out 3/4” the source is greyed out as it follows “Main...”
