Topic: Connect R2R to Adi2 pro
Hello,
First let me say that i am using the adi2 pro for over a year now and i’m very happy with it and i have connected it to my setup in many ways but i was most of all stunned by the fact that i cannot hear any difference between a direct signal (from my phonoamp) and the same signal via A/D and D/A through the Adi2 pro !
Abbreviations:
PL-pre : Prima Luna Preamplifier
PL-pow : Prima Luna Poweramp
Current setup :
Adi2 pro with :
analogue-in connected to phonoamp
Usb connected to mac (or ipad) to stream qobuz
Main-out to PL-pow (via rca attenuator -20db)
I also have a PL-pre which i no longer use because as you see above the Adi2 is directly connected to the PL-pow
Now i would like to add a tapedeck (R2R)
I can use the obsolete PL-pre for that :
Connect the main-out from the adi2 to a line-in on the PL-pre
Connect the R2R-out to a line-in on the PL-pre
Connect the R2R-in to the tape-out on the PL-pre
Connect the PL-pre out to the PL-pow
Problem is that i now use both the amplifiers (adi2 and PL-pre) to feed the PL-pow and that is not ideal ( i also cannot use the adi2 EQ on the R2R signal)
But i can also do it this way :
Connect the main-out from the adi2 to the PL-pow (via rca attenuator)
Connect the phones-out from the adi2 to the R2R-in
Connect the analogue-in from the adi2 to the tape-out on the PL-pre
Connect the phonoamp to a line-in on the PL-pre
Connect the R2R-out to a line-in on the PL-pre
That way i am not using the amplification of the PL-pre, i’m using it as a switch
What do you think? It is not ideal that i use the adi-out 3/4 to send the signal to the R2R because it is amplified, but that is a minor problem i think, great advantage is that i can EQ the R2R signal (and the phonoamp signal)
Thanks for your reply,
Louis
