Topic: What does the USB input do with the 5v and 0v pins?

Hi all,

I have the ADI-DAC 2 FS being fed from an iPad via USB.
I wondered what the RME does with the power pins in the USB connection?

Options are :-
1) they are not connected at the DAC input (just signal wires connected and isolated from 5v and 0v)
2) as above except signal ground is connected to 0v anyway.
3) they take power from the connected device
4) they supply power to the connected device
5) others ?

The reason I want to know is that I have previously used the camera connection kit with my iPad that makes the lightning connector USB compliant and also allows charging of the iPad during use. Now I have a newer iPad that uses USB C and hence no need for the CCK. This is good news in terms of no dongle, but I lose the charging option. So, I wondered, if the RME does nothing with the 5v and 0v pins then I’ll just insert a splitter, so I can charge the iPad and still pass signal to the RME.

Please let me know if there is a better option.

Thanks

You can power the iPad by using a powered USB hub. The DAC does not use the +5V from buspower.
