Topic: Fireface UC MIDI Driver on Apple M1 issues

Found the following issue with the MIDI driver on an M1 Pro Macbook Pro 14" with macOS Monterey:

Didn't get the issue on an Intel MacBook Pro.

After installation of the drivers, in the MIDI Studio of Audio-Midi-Setup the interface doesn't occur as Fireface UC MIDI - although it should appear with this naming according to manual and it was no issue with an older Intel MacBook Pro (2015).
In the Audio-Midi-Setup the icon is displayed as "USB Midi Device" and has default values:

  • Gerätename: USB-MIDI-Gerät

  • Hersteller: Allgemein

  • Modell: USB-MIDI-Gerät

Ports:

  • Anschluss 1

  • Anschluss 2

Of course, I can rename this device, but can't change the other settings (Hersteller (supplier) and so on).
However, if the Fireface UC is connected then I get issues with other applications when I want to select a MIDI device. When I click on the dropdown, the applications crash.
Following applications crash: All Montage / MODX tools from John Melas.
These don't crash when the Fireface UC is disconnected.

I've been using the latest version 3.27, but also tested with the 4.04 beta version with same behavior.

Re: Fireface UC MIDI Driver on Apple M1 issues

As noted here before we use the macOS system's MIDI driver (Class Compliant). A crash is therefore not caused by us but either the app or Apple. And we have no way to change that.

The name itself might change at a later state away from the default, though.

Thanks, I will report it to the manufacturer of the apps.
