Topic: USB full duplex measurement

Hi,
I have the ADI-2 pro fs R.
For room measurement, I would like, with Audacity on my PC,  to play a .wav file and simultaneously record it via an USB microphone.
Sort of full duplex...
In the manual, it looks possible. Really ?
If so, what setup do you recommend ?
Regards,

You need a mic preamp!

Thans for the fast answer.
But my mic is an USB-only one (mini-DSP Umik-1).
I can use it directly on my PC, but I wish to use the same clock for play & record.

Re: USB full duplex measurement

Due to your special configuration - separate USB’s for in and out- I cannot recommend a specific setup.

In general with USB ADI-2 Pro tends to use the USB clock, so most setups should be fine.

You can check with various “Modes” for ADI-2 Pro.
To switch the Mode unplug the USB-cable to make it valid.

My typical clock test signal is a high frequency sinewave, like e.g. 19 kHz.

Do your setup, record the sinewave, then listen to the recording (not too loud to prevent blown tweeters).

If the clock was asynchronous during recording somewhere in the signal path, you will notice repeated clicks.
No clicks - everything OK, clocks in sync.

Re: USB full duplex measurement

Thanks a lot.
(19 KHz ! you have very young ears. I already know how to blow tweeters ;-)

Ahh ... it’s not about hearing the sinewave, but about NOT hearing it.
This way you only hear the clicks.

As pulsive signals like clicks always contain all frequencies, they are clearly audible.

The clicks origin from skipped samples - an effect that appear when digital clocks are not in sync.

OK, I'll do it.
With caution.
Thank you,
