Topic: Babyface Pro FS and traveling tips?

Hi all!

David again. Thanks for the warm welcome on the forum, and great answers to my previous question about loopback. Now that the Babyface Pro FS is perfectly in my workflow and works beautifully, I have another question come up.

At the end of my semester in May, I'm thinking about returning home for the summer break. I'm planning to take the Babyface Pro FS and the XLR connection cables with me so I can listen at home. Any tips as to what to do when packing? I'll be flying internationally, by the way.

Another question. As I had another person helping me unbox the Babyface, I didn't participate in the process of getting the unit out. As I examined the shipping box yesterday, I touched a packing case that feels hefty. I don't know how to open it, it seems locked or something. Is this the traveling case? Can I just throw this into my suitcase and check it among my luggage? Or, do you suggest I put it in my carry-on?

Sorry, a lot of questions. But I want to take care of this audio interface well, and take good audio quality with me home to enjoy as well. Thank you for any tips and hints, I appreciate it!

I would put it into the luggage together with all cables and technical equipment, it might be suspect to certain border officers when in handbag

Feel round and there are two indents on a long side. These are clips that you get your fingers under and pull. There are no locks and it’s all plastic mould including the clips.

I will add that the locking clips are quite firm and unless you have fingernails like a gorilla, you may want to use a keyring or wedge like object to open them. it is a secure case and should protect your Babyface just fine inside a suitcase.

Oh no, I guess I'm out of luck. I usually cut my fingernails short for direct contact with both piano and computer keyboard.

Yes, I felt the identical clips you described, it's just impossible to open. They have designed it so securely!!!

haha! that's great Jeff smile  although BIC pens aren't as ubiquitous as they used to be here in the U.S.!

perhaps you can keep a large coin in your pocket and use that to open the latches, David?

I'm glad you added text to your post. That's OK, I believe that box should be the one. My iPhone can describe images to me in basic terms, and it says that your posted image is a "black box."

Hmm, I wonder how you open boxes with a coin. I'm afraid of breaking the clips. What other tools do you recommend?

I didn’t think it was that bad. I just used my fingers and I opened a few weeks ago to check a cable.

Hi everyone!

Just decided to revive this as a "final update" of sorts, as I've now successfully traveled with my Babyface pro FS back to China. I've purchased a couple of XLR cables before my flight arrived, so it was direct plug-and-play. I'm loving my setup and the flexibility of it so much!!! Thank you RME and forum for all your tips and have a nice day!!!
