Topic: a new bug need to solve (pro se)

Hi dear RME staff,

I'm a new pro se user, my speakers are Genelec G5A *2 + F2B *1, usually PC is the main audio source, the concection way is : 【PC】--(USB)--【PRO SE】--(XLR *2 out)--【G5A *2】; 【PRO SE】--(optical out)-- 【F2B *1】, 2 ways output can work the same time.

so I hope to play nintendo switch with pro se, the connection is: 【switch deck】 --(USB)-- 【PRO SE】 --(XLR *2 out)-- 【G5A *2】; 【PRO SE】--(optical out)-- 【F2B *1】, but it does not work, PRO SE's screen tips (USB mode), but no column active signal on screen. I already updated firmware to 30 version.

I bought another USB DAC(made in China, no brand) device for test, accidentally it works! but its price only $100(us dollar),  the concection way is: 【switch deck】 --(USB)-- 【USB DAC】 --(optical in)-- 【PRO SE】 --(XLR*2 out)-- 【G5A *2】; 【USB DAC】--(coaxial out)-- 【F2B *1】. this way made G5A *2 and F2B *1 both work, but this way is too cumbersome!  :-(

And I have tried this connection way: 【switch deck】 --(USB)-- 【USB DAC】 --(optical in)-- 【PRO SE】 --(XLR *2 out)-- 【G5A *2】; 【PRO SE】--(optical out)-- 【F2B *1】, this way G5A*2 works, but F2B *1 not works.

Finally I wish PRO SE can work with switch and other console for get a better audio quality, can this idear realize? I really enjoy PRO SE, thank you very much for your great working!

Re: a new bug need to solve (pro se)

The only thing that comes to mind:

SETUP / Device Mode/DSD / CC-Mode:
Should be “Stereo”, not “Multichannel”.

Unplugging USB is needed to change it if necessary.

Re: a new bug need to solve (pro se)

I created some ASCII drawing to make the differences in the four setups better visible.

So, the question is why the Pro SE doesn't work with Nintendo console on its USB port, see case B) above.
The workaround in C) using a noname DAC is not wanted.
Additional question, why D) doesn't work.

A) PC via USB works
PC-----------USB---ProSE---XLR---------Genelec G5A
                                  \----SPDIF(o)---Genelec F2B (sub)

B) Nintento via USB does not work
Nintendo---USB---ProSE---XLR---------Genelec G5A
                                  \-----SPDIF(o)---Genelec F2B (sub)

C) Nintendo - NoName DAC in between. Connecting sub to NoNameDAC's coax. SPDIF output works. Setup too cumbersome.

Nintendo---USB---NonameDAC---SPDIF(o)---ProSE---XLR---------Genelec G5A
                                            \-----SPDIF(c)---------------------------Genelec F2B (sub)

D) Nintendo - NoName DAC in between. Connecting subwoofer to ProSE's optical SPDIF output does not work.
Nintendo---USB---NonameDAC---SPDIF(o)---ProSE---XLR---------Genelec G5A
                                                                          \-----SPDIF(o)---Genelec F2B (sub)

Desired solution is B) and to get rid of the noname DAC in the setup.

@KaiS: good idea, curious whether this works :-)

Yes, when I updated 30 version just now, I reset all settings by 2 ways (volume + 1 + power;  volume +1+2 + power), and keep all settings are  default to test switch console. CC-Mode is stereo.

Then it’s something that needs to be fixed by firmware.

Re: a new bug need to solve (pro se)

Does Nintendo even support UAC2? Or is it USB 1.1 like Sony's PS5?

awesome overview! :-)

Case B is the best way, according to the results of my search, there is post may be useful, but it's too old (5 yeas ago):

https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch … t/dopgy1w/

or you can search about keywords with: "nintendo switch usb dac" for more infomation.

For case D, I connect noname DAC and PRO SE via optical, noname DAC to Genelec F2B via coaxial because there is only 1 optical and 1 coaxial interface on it, PRO SE only have optical on body, use coaxial out function need to insert converter cable (cumbersome). If PRO SE can work with optical in and out the same time, I can say goodbye to coaxial cable.  :-P

Re: a new bug need to solve (pro se)

Another idea regarding "Case D" above.
Maybe it is configuration related that this scenario didn't work for you (regarding the setting for Digital Out Source).
Assumed the Pro SE is still connected to the PC via USB as you might not want to plug/unplug devices too often.

From the block diagrams / routing both should work, USB CC mode stereo and multi-channel.
As far as I see you only need to ensure to use the correct setting for Digital Out Source  (Setup - Options - Device Mode).

In CC Stereo mode           Digital Out Source needs to be set to "Main Out"
In CC Multi-channel mode Digital Out Source needs to be set to "Line Out"

Maybe it's the reason, but I still hope to realize it, through my comparison, the difference in sound quality is very large.  O_o

Thank you for your patient explanation, I just tested your way, it works, and I found the volume of main speakers and sub are linked, adjust 1/2 volume, both of them are change the same time. So I must turn the volume of sub to max for a normal volume.(PRO SE volume turn to about -40dBr)  :-D

Case D can adjust volume main speakers(via PRO SE volume knob) and sub(via remoter of sub) separately.

Each of the URLs need an img tag and "?dl=1" at the end if you want that the browser directly loads the image.
Let me check whether this works better .... yes it does ;-)

Thank you, don't worry, was my decision to answer :-)

Nice that case D works, and thanks to Matthias Carstens for the great manual, in this case, especially the commented block diagrams that get it to the point. Otherwise, I would not have had any idea :-)

There remains only case A to clarify.

Could you please check and ask Nintendo to which USB standards the console is compliant?
See also posting from MC above.

Thank you, I'll ask nintendo for answer, but I don't know if they will answer, this question beyond the scope of the game.  :'D
