Topic: External preamp for tracking DI guitar and bass?

Currently I use RNDI plugged in to mic1 input of my Fireface UCX to track bass and guitar (DI). I may later process these thorough amp/cab sims, or leave it as it is, depending on context.

I was thinking of trying to place an external preamp between DI box and fireface. I still feel that the sound I get is a little thin and not too real, and wonder if external preamp could change it.

Any thoughts if it would make any difference at all?

Sure, there is a whole lot of preamps with IR cabsim and stuff built in, so an external preamp can definitely change your sound.
