Topic: UC/UCX need power supply

Hi,

My FF400 is giving me issues under W10. This is due to lack of FF support under W10. I am thinking of upgrading to UC or UCX. The card is connected to a PC (not laptop). With FF I don't need a power supply for the FF400. Does the UC/UCX need an external power supply to work or is the current from the USB enough?

Thanks,

Re: UC/UCX need power supply

You could try the firewire legacy driver, a well supported FW card with TI FW chip which is known to work
and use a power supply to be on the safe side, that the FF400 gets enough energy (in some cases you need one).

Exsys EX-16415, 3x FireWire 800/1x FireWire, PCIe x1 (TI XIO2213B)

USB doesn't deliver enough power for UC and UCX.

Recommended feature-wise: the latest model UCX II. It gives you e.g.:
DURec, Autoset, preamps from UFX II, AES I/O, much faster converter compared to UC, ..
AES port is nice, then you can integrate an ADI-2 DAC/Pro later and still have the ADAT port free for other expansions if needed.
Furthermore, likely that converter quality (sound) is a little better compared to old designs from 2006 (FF400).
