Topic: [Solved] BF Pro suddenly lost contact to Mac

Hi,

Just came to work, booted up my computer (OsX 11.3.1)

Worked before today on a Pro Tools session, the BabyFace Pro worked perfectly.

Now TotalMix does not show anything (cannot open a mixer view) and I cannot see the BF in my system preferences either.

I do get signal in but can only hear it through XLR outs, no sound to phones.

I'm in the middle of a project here so I'm in a bit of a trouble here..

Hello!

No Mac user, here, but since you 're on a hurry, I 'l give it a shot, until someone more experienced on Macs can chime in!
Maybe your BF Pro is in CC Mode?

Can you try this:

Manual wrote:

In case the level meters of the Babyface Pro show CC during power-on, and Settings dialog and
TotalMix FX refuse to start: the unit is in Class Compliance mode.

Remove the USB cable, hold SELECT and DIM button down, plug-in the USB cable or the power supply.
This procedure changes between CC and normal mode.
When the Level meters change to PC the normal mode is active.

When using a power supply (stand-alone mode), holding down SELECT and DIM for more than
two seconds repeatedly changes between PC and CC.
Note that changing the operating mode is not supported during normal USB operation, so any USB connection has to be removed

Booted up a few times, left it a this.

This must be PC? Which should be the correct option if I understood correctly?

Still the mac does not recognise the Babyface / cannot see it in system preferences or open TotalMix..

Yes, this is PC Mode!

This should have done it, if that was the case..

Do you have another Usb cable lying around, that you could try? You never know..
Apart from that, I cannot help you, further..Sorry!
I have no clue about Mac OS.

Re: [Solved] BF Pro suddenly lost contact to Mac

Check Apple menu > About this Mac > System Report > USB. Is the Babyface listed here? if not, there is a physical connection issue or a hardware failure with the Babyface. If it is shown here, then it's probably just a driver problem. Big Sur has had recurring issues of re-blocking the RME driver even after you click Allow in the security panel.

Re: [Solved] BF Pro suddenly lost contact to Mac

So the fault was my USB hub..

Seems it had suddenly broken in a way that it could not provide enough current to power up all functions in the BF Pro. It provided enough juice to run the LEDs but headphone amp did not work. Signal passed through to the XLR outs as well and the volume control worked..

This was also the reason the BF did not show in my System Preferences.

Got a new one and everything's back to normal now.
