Topic: Linux digiface usb question

Hello, since I use Linux and I have an RME digiface usb which of course does not have a driver for the Linux system, is it possible to connect the digital audio output that exists on the motherboard via a Spdif cable to the digiface device which would only transmit a digital signal and via the audio output for headphones transmitted sound ? Digiface would be powered via a usb port. In that case, does there have to be a driver for it or not? Thank you very much.

Re: Linux digiface usb question

There is no danger for the device by doing a test.
The result will be, no audio will come out of the headphone socket.
The unit needs a driver, the user manual has no word about Class-compliant or stand-alone function.

Re: Linux digiface usb question

I was hoping that maybe it can be performed if the signal goes from the integrated sound card and transmitted via digiface, but you are probably right, without a driver, it is unlikely that anything will be born at the end of the chain. Anyway I'll give it a try, first I have to buy the motherboard adapter and then the cable. Thanks for your reply.

Re: Linux digiface usb question

Thanks for the link, definitely a good price. However, it is necessary to buy a module that connects directly to the motherboard on the one hand and enables the classic spdif rc output on the other. Something like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/124294369303?chn=ps. I was thinking of connecting the RME digiface on the other side, but it will hardly work without the driver,  I will definitely try it. If not, what you suggested is a good solution.
