Topic: Doubt about signal recorded in UCX II/ UC in Reaper.

I have recorded with the RME UCX II (driver 1.245 and everything updated) on channel 3 and 4 simultaneously with nothing connected on the inputs with both at +13db with "inst" on and 9 db gain. The result in Reaper in W10 is as follows after normalizing (to get the picture right).

It looks weird, but when you stretch/scroll horizontally it looks fine. could anyone tell me why it looks wrong?

I have done the same test on another computer with the same version of Reaper on W11 and with my old RME UC (Driver 1.227 and updated firmware) with similar gain settings and it looks fine, as usual.

When I plug in a guitar and record the result is good on both (UC and UCX II), the "weird" signal only happens on the UCX II when there is nothing at the input. Is it normal? Is it a Reaper thing? Why the UC didn't do it on that same computer before? Is it something to do with no input signal on the UCX II digital gain and the UC input gain is different (analog)? Is there something misconfigured or messed up?

Thank you very much in advance.

Re: Doubt about signal recorded in UCX II/ UC in Reaper.

Is the weird signal just noise ?
Yes it's normal from a microphone input when nothing is connected and the input gain is open, then noise comes out.

It's normal for any analog input (not only mic input). You need to have something connected or better mute.

Re: Doubt about signal recorded in UCX II/ UC in Reaper.

Thank you all very much.

I was worried that something was wrong with the new UCX II. I understand that it is noise but what I still do not understand is the waveform in the first image (UCX II), I think it should be like in the third (UC). Even so when it is stretched / scrolled horizontally (image 2) it looks totally normal so it must be something Reaper.

And it only does it in inputs 3 and 4 line/inst, in inputs 1 and 2 with 48V and high gain it looks good. Recording is also normal.

Another thing that has puzzled me is the following image in one of the tests. It has only happened a couple of times. Strange... Strange.

Thank you very much again and greetings.

I forgot to say that after rendering the signal looks good. In this last image I posted you can clearly see the rendered track.

Re: Doubt about signal recorded in UCX II/ UC in Reaper.

Looks strange, is a 24 bit recording forced to show up in 8 bit resolution ?
Is the project settings set to record in 24 bit ?
Also turn the gain down could help

Re: Doubt about signal recorded in UCX II/ UC in Reaper.

The default setting I always have is 32 FP for both recording and rendering. The last two (weird...weird) files are (32 FP), both the recording above and the rendering of that recording below.

What could be going on?

Thank you very much waedi.
