Topic: Getting ADI-2 Pro to work with usb powerbank

I can power pc monitors and lot of 12v stuff with a regular usb powerbank that has qualcomm power delivery 3 , meaning it can output 5-9-12 volts if its requested and with the use of a 12v trigger cable.

But i cannot power this adi-2 pro , it starts making continuous clicking sound or doesnt work at all. There is a guy that has done it with some usb power delivery chip in the middle that is programmed to request 9.5 to 15v. If it would output straight 12v for some reason the adi-2 pro would not work.

I think its stupid thing to have this adaptable 9 to 15v range because the obvious use is the 12v from usb powerbanks. Or what would be much better, usb c power delivery.

Not 9v batteries and not 15v adapters. Its just stupid in my opinion. Im pretty sure it would work if it was just straight 12v design

Re: Getting ADI-2 Pro to work with usb powerbank

Looks like you missed the limited current available with QC 3.0 at 12V. That is what makes the ADI act strange. If you use a USB-C power supply with PD instead, with such a trigger cable, then it works (I use it that way, but that's not a power bank).

Addendum: it turned out that it's not the current, but the way QC works. On plug detection, or power on of the Powerbank, QC first sends out 5 Volt for at least 2 seconds. The ADI starts to boot but can not boot correctly with that low voltage. When the powerbank then changes to 12 V it's too late, the ADI is already in a broken loop state.

PD does not show such a behaviour, it negotiates before switching on power, so the 12 Volt are available from the start.
