XTC MADI to/from 12mic-D, MIDI over MADI control from XTC USB1

In my case, RME Connector is connecting to the XTC but not to the 12mic-D. MIDI device IDs are set to 0 and 1, with MIDI via MADI optical. MADI is simple XTC out to 12mic-D optical, and back to XTC. 12mic-D is passing audio to XTC via MADI.

12mic-D not connecting to RME Connector -- am I missing something simple?

A follow up:
It looks like the issue is that the 12mic-D is actually connected (controllable from RME Connector software), but RME Connector is not showing the "online" status.

Are there Mac system requirements for RME Connector?

Furthermore, RME Connector's 12mic-D panel not showing hardware's status changes -- meter levels, etc.
So, control is functioning, but display is not.
