Topic: SPDIF to ADAT?

seems like a struggle to find any gear that has digital inputs to adat.

I recently got the ADI 2/4 Pro SE and Raydat and no matter how I slice it - I only have access to 1 stereo i/o via spdif. Some devices can really benefit from this - namely the kemper, as you can record and reamp via DI all from the SPDIF/digital out.

likewise, my display is LG c1 which uses optical digital out for the best case scenario. Now I have a fancy AD/DA converter and I would have to muddy that up running it through converters on cheaper piece of ADAT gear.

I guess I'm dumb and don't know any better - but why isn't there a device that just literally takes 4 stereo SPDIF ditigal coax and converts it to 8 channels of ADAT and vice versa? I've been eyeing the cranborne 500adat but picking any of those up means losing out on another potential digital i/o

I found this thing: DIGITAL KONNEKT X32 https://www.tcelectronic.com/product.ht … Code=HE044 but it doesn't seem to exist even 2nd hand

Or

with as many of these, as you need:  https://www.thomann.de/de/lindy_audioko … igital.htm

Re: SPDIF to ADAT?

I suppose if I could verify that german site had one of those in stock I'd consider it - howver the digiface would take up a whole ADAT on my raydat for each single SDPIF - that's not an option, unless i severely misunderstand how that thing operates.

Re: SPDIF to ADAT?

The Digiface USB needs a computer and Totalmix  to split one Adat into 4 Stereo Adat outputs.
Those 4 Stereo Adat Outputs goes into 4 Lindy converters giving you 4 stereo SPDIF Coax
Or the other way around from 4 coax SPDIF create one Adat 8-channel.
It's cheaper as that device from TCelectronic but it is a bit messy from the cables and power suplies for each Lindy.

Howdy, I just joined the forum to respond to this after lurking for some time.

Look into the RME ADI-8 DD. https://archiv.rme-audio.de/download/adi8dd_e.pdf
It's advertised to convert AES/EBU to ADAT and ADAT to AES/EBU, however you can use S/PDIF in place of AES by using XLR to RCA adapters. I'm currently running multiple Fractal Audio Axe Fx units and a TC M300 reverb with this configuration. The only down side is sourcing the ADI-8 DD, as they're discontinued. I picked mine up for $400 USD on eBay about a month ago.

Hope you have luck with your endeavor!

Re: SPDIF to ADAT?

A used ADI-4 DD would work as well, up to 96 kHz. If you need clock decoupling a used ADI-192 DD would be an even better option.

There had been a small and cheap unit doing only ADAT/SPDIF/ADAT (not RME, forgot the brand), but due to small demand (=sales) it vanished many years ago.
