Topic: Setup ADI-8 QS correctly

Hi,

Sorry I couldn't find a ADI-8 section in the forum...

I made a recordin last week and It sounds really bad, I think my ADI-8 QS settigns are wrong.  I read the manual, but I don'T understand the theory enough..

I had a microphone plugged in a UA 6176 preamp, the line output of the UA plugged in input 1 of the ADI-8 QS.  (XLR -> 1/4'' balanced)

The ADI 8 is going in my UAD Apollo ADAT.

The recording sounds like digital overdrive.  It is subtle, but when the singer went for it, this is where I hear it.

What should be the settings on the ADI-8 ?

I had the input at +19
output at +13

48Khz clock

Besides other happens, like the singers throat, the mic, or the preamp settings:

Might be a clock problem, or you have the Digital Limiter active and your level is hot.

You need to decide which unit should be clock master.
All others need to be clock slave.

As the RME converters are quite good beeing clock slave, the Apollo / DAW can be master.

Now connect both ADI-8 ADAT in AND out to Apollo, and set ADI-8 Clock (middle section) to:

• Clock: ADAT

• On the left, switch: Limiter: Analog

Thanks for the answer.

So what I understand is I need to set it at +19 on both inputs and outputs ? (I was +19 input and +13 output)

I might have forgotten to clock it during the session ... shame sad

Input +19 is ok.
Out + 13 is ok, but also it is irrelevant as you use digital output not analog.
Watch the input level meter in the QS, is it going into red ? Lower the preamp gain.

Can you upload a sample somewhere? There are software tools that can remove digital clipping quite effectively.
